SOCCER Willis-led Mooney scores four goals

Hubbard's boys and girls teams both won.

WARREN -- Freshman Kenny "Kiki" Willis scored four goals, as Mooney (5-1-0, 2-0 Steel Valley Conference) downed Warren Harding 9-3 Saturday at Mollenkopf Stadium.

Willis scored three times in a five-minute period in the second half.

Mooney is ranked No. 6 in Division III of the Associated Press Ohio Coaches Soccer poll. The Cardinals' Pat Walker, a junior, added three goals and he had an assist. Chris Conese scored two goals.

Mike Hernan, Jon Freany, Cristo Frangopolous and Jan Jurel each had an assist. Goalkeeper Tim Reigrut had five saves and eight stops. Mooney had 24 shots on goal and Warren Harding had eight.

Nosco Delchev scored a goal and had an assist for the Raiders (5-4-1, 0-2). John Michlakis and Kereem Thoma added a goal apiece. Anthony Nuzzi, keeper, had 15 saves and seven stops.

Canfield 1, Poland 0: POLAND -- Julian Donofrio scored from 18 yards out in the first half for the Cardinals (3-4-2, 2-0-1 Metro Athletic Conference).

Mathews 2, Chaney 2: VIENNA -- Mike Pero of Chaney scored with 2.1 seconds on a header to forge the tie. Terrence Phelps also scored for the Cowboys (4-3-2).

Pero and Phelps each had an assist.

Nathan Heflick and Mike Thorn each scored for the Mustangs (5-5-1).

Dave Copanic of Chaney had 19 saves in goal while Jason Thompson had six saves for Mathews.

Hubbard 7, Warren JFK 0: HUBBARD -- Chris Styn scored three goals, Justin Daly had two goals while A.J. Giancola and Rafael Almedia each had one goal for the Eagles (7-0-2).

JFK is 3-4-1. Daly had three assists and has 25 goals on the year. Matt Tringhese and Erik Melvin also each had an assist for Hubbard.

Girls:

Hubbard 4, South Euclid Regina 1: HUBBARD -- Sophomore Adrienne Wolf scored two goals, while Mary Newberry and Anna DeJulio each had one for the Eagles (8-1-1).

The Eagles, who are tied for seventh in Division II of the coaches soccer poll. Hubbard's Krystina Wylie and Wolf had an assist apiece.

Goalkeeper Lynle Cornell had three saves. Rachel Ruggerii scored the goal for Regina.

Mooney 4, Grove City 1: YOUNSTOWN -- Katie Duracky scored three goals and Amy Edwards added one.

Goalkeeper Adrianne Detesco had seven saves for the Cardinals (6-1). Jessica Taylor scored the goal for Grove City (6-2-1). MacKensie Elford, keeper, had six saves.

Fitch 4, Green 2: AKRON -- Sophomore midfielder Danielle Storey scored twice while Lindsy Hitesman and Sarah Baker each had one goal for the Falcons (6-3). Jessica Sprowl, Kristy Croysdale and Storey each had an assist for the Falcons.

Alison Chasko had 13 saves in net for the Falcons.

Ursuline 6, Bristol 0: BRISTOLVILLE -- Senior Shaina Drummond scored twice while senior Lauren Bachinger, sophomores Jessica Kausits and Annalise Bassetti and freshman Tiffany Walsh had a goal apiece for the Irish (2-5-1).

Boardman 5, West Branch 0: BOARDMAN -- Janeen Masternick of Boardman (7-4) scored four goals, three in the first have and the other in the second half.

Maggie Mills added the other goal. Jeanne Sutton had two assists and Mills had one. Goalkeeper Lauren Callahan had six saves. The Spartans had 26 shots on goal.

Poland 4, Lakeview 0: CORTLAND -- Sophomore Britt Davis had two goals while senior Tara McLarney and senior Allyson Daprile added a goal apiece for Poland (9-1).

Juniors Megan Bair and Christa Yash and Davis had assists for Poland which attempted 20 shots-on-goal to Lakeview's five. Lakeview's goalie had five saves. Lakeview's record is 3-3-2.

Canfield 4, Salem 0: CANFIELD -- Amy D'Amico, Whitney Zunic, Erin Fening and Emily Sulenski each had a goal for the Cardinals, 4-5, 3-2. Canfield took more shots on goal, 37-4. Noelle Zalac saved four shots for the Cardinals.

Girard 5, Ashtabula Edgewood 0: ASHTABULA -- Jenny Sopkovich scored three goals while Morgan Tondo had two goals and each had an assist for the Indians (4-5).

April Courtney also had an assist for Girard which had lost two in a row. Shannon Slezak had eight saves in goal for Girard.

Howland 2, Parma Holy Name 1: PARMA -- Senior Liz Kiracofe and junior Darcy Quinlan scored for Howland (8-2) while seniors Leah Albani and Lisa Hlaudy had the assists. Sophomore Tracy Moore had eight saves for Howland while Rosie Frank had 15 stops for Parma.

Warren JFK 5, Badger 0: WARREN -- Sarah McNeil and Alli Hazboun each tallied two goals for the Eagles (7-1-1). Katie Roberts added the other goal.

Carla Simeone and NcNeil each had an assist. Michelle Rossio, goalkeeper, had five saves. Elizabeth Smith, goalkeeper for Badger (3-5-0) had 20 saves.
