March 31, 1949 -- Austintown Fitch, Campbell Memorial, Struthers, Girard, Hubbard, Niles McKinley and Struthers organize the Steel Valley Conference.May 14, 1949 -- First sporting event of the SVC -- a track meet at Struthers.January 23, 1950 -- Boardman admitted.November 5, 1957 -- Niles withdraws, effective June 1, 1958.November 21, 1957 -- Niles membership terminated for failure to follow SVC policy.April 27, 1959 -- Brookfield accepted, effective the 1961-62 season.1970 -- Girard withdraws.April 21, 1972 -- Mooney and Ursuline join.April 18, 1974 -- Girls sports qualify for SVC championship.March 11, 1976 -- Howland joins the SVC.January 18, 1978 -- Struthers withdraws.May 10, 1978 -- Warren Western Reserve joins.April 5, 1979 -- Campbell sends letter of withdrawal, effective 1979-80 season1979 -- Hubbard withdraws.May 24, 1979 -- Warren Harding applies to participate in football in 1982. Canton McKinley interested in joining in football only.November 14, 1990 -- Canton McKinley denied membership for football only.January 11, 1991 -- Mentor applies to SVC.Oct. 4, 1991 -- Canton McKinley again submits letter of interest in joining SVC, but not in all sports.Nov. 4, 1991 -- Canton McKinley again denied membership on limited participation in sports.Feb. 11, 1998 -- Youngstown City Schools apply. Application is denied due to instability and lack of a full complement of sports.Feb. 24, 1999 -- Fitch makes inquiry into Metro Athletic Conference. No formal application made.Feb. 13, 2001 -- Warren JFK sends letter of interest in joining SVC in all sports except football. Request denied.April 12, 2001 -- SVC commissioner Mike Butch proposes plan involving SVC and MAC in all sports except football. MAC not interested.May 10, 2001 -- Fitch and Boardman send letter of interest to MAC and Canton-based Federal League.May 14, 2001 -- Fitch High principal Doug McGlynn and Boardman High principal Louis Rucci meet with Brian Wolf, principal of Poland High, to discuss affiliation with MAC. MAC not interested.June 1, 2001 -- Fitch and Boardman are told by Federal League officials that there are not enough votes for membership approval.March 6, 2002 -- After again sending letters of interest to the Federal League, Fitch and Boardman are invited to join.March 14, 2002 -- Fitch and Boardman withdraw, join Federal League.
