Hope program

YOUNGSTOWN -- A five-part discussion series, "Rediscovering Youngstown's Spirit of Dynamism & amp; Hope" will be at 9:15 a.m. Sundays from Oct. 7 to Nov. 4 at St. John's Episcopal Church.

Speakers and topics include, Atty. Jim Callen of Northeast Ohio Legal Services, moving beyond corruption, Oct. 7; Drs. John Russo and Sherry Linkon of Youngstown State's University's Labor Management Relations Center, conflict and the shaping of Youngstown, Oct. 14; H. William Lawson, executive director of the Mahoning Valley Historical Society, housing and neighborhoods, Oct. 21; Dr. Victor Wan-Tatah, professor of religious studies at YSU, race and ethnicity, Oct. 28, and retired YSU professor Dr. George Beelen, will talk on the people of the valley, on Nov. 4. Conference day

NORTH JACKSON -- The Rev. Kieran Kavanaugh, O.C.D., will present a conference on St. John of the Cross Sept. 30 at the National Shrine of Our Lady of Lebanon The conference begins with the Rosary at 11 a.m., and ends with Mass at 5:30 p.m. Call (330) 538-3351.

Ordination set

NEWTON FALLS -- Geraldine MacNeil, who has been serving as pastor of First Congregational Church of Newton Falls since July 1, will be ordained by the church at 3 p.m. Sunday. McNeil received her masters of divinity degree from the Boston School of Theology. She had served in United Methodist Churches in New England for four years. A reception will follow.

Pastor installation

HUBBARD -- The Rev. James Zingale will be installed as pastor of Grace Lutheran Church at 10:30 a.m. Sunday. He earned his masters of divinity degree at Trinity Lutheran Seminary in Columbus., and his master's in theology at Lutheran Seminary in St. Paul, Minn. He had served as senior pastor at Calvary Lutheran in Columbus. A dinner will follow.

Workshop set

YOUNGSTOWN -- The Rev. Wayne Robinson, minister of music at New Salem Baptist in Charlotte, N.C., and a professor of music, will take part in a music workshop and choir concert at 6:30 p.m. Friday at Third Baptist Church.

Youth advocate talk

GIRARD -- The Rev. Gerson Correia de Lacerda will speak on advocacy for street children in San Paulo, Brazil at 7 p.m. Oct. 1 at First Presbyterian Church. He is the president of the Presbyterian seminary and pastor of First Independent Presbyterian Church of Osasco, both in San Paulo. His visit is sponsored by Eastminster Presbytery.

Mission scheduled

CORTLAND -- The Rev. Michael Crosby of Milwaukee, Wis., will speak at a mission at St. Robert Bellarmine Church. Talks are at 9:45 a.m. and 7 p.m. Sept. 24 to 27. The focus of the week is compassion as the core of spiritual life. Father Crosby is an author who has presented programs throughout the world.

Novena at shrine

NORTH JACKSON -- A nine-day novena in honor of St. Theresa, the Little Flower, will be Sept. 23 to Oct.1 at the National Shrine of Our Lady of Lebanon. Prayers will be said at 7 p.m. each day. Gospel concert

LISBON -- Southern gospel artist Ivan Parker and the group God's Quad will perform at 7 p.m. Oct. 13 at David Anderson High School. The cost is $10. For tickets, call (330) 424-5252.

10th anniversary rites

STRUTHERS -- Fellowship Church of God in Christ will celebrate its 10th anniversary at 11 a.m. Sept. 23. The church will honor Ruth Rozenblad and Annie M. Scott, long-time pianists at churches in the Youngstown-Warren area at 4 p.m. that day. Call (330) 750-0002.

New church begins

AUSTINTOWN -- The Rev. Richard M. Judy Jr. of Youngstown will start a new church, Fellowship of Servants, at 11 a.m. Oct. 7, at 6520 Mahoning Ave., Austintown. He will give the message, "We Have Been Given This Ministry." For more information, visit www.fellowship-of-servants.org.

Missions fair set

YOUNGSTOWN -- Idaho Road Alliance Church will have its annual missions fair Sunday through Sept. 23. Events include:

UA special service at 10:30 a.m. Sunday.

UJohn Arnold talking about his work in Burkina Faso, one of the poorest countries in the world, 7 p.m. Tuesday; sept18

UFaith Scarrow will discuss 30 years of work in Peru at a youth program at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday; an adult program at 7 p.m. Wednesday, and at a ladies' luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Sept. 22.

UEric Maxey will discuss work in Indonesia at 7 p.m. Thursday and at a youth program at 6:30 p.m. Friday.

At 10:30 a.m. Sept. 23, the fair with close with a breakfast, a video presentation and missionary interviews. Call (330) 792-3456.

Free concert offered

COLUMBIANA -- Randy Estelle of Courtyard Media Ministries in Bradenton, Fla., will perform at a free concert at 6 p.m. Sept. 23 at Columbiana High School. The concert is sponsored by Columbiana Tabernacle Assembly of God.

EAST PALESTINE -- New Song, a ministry from Geneva College in Beaver Falls, Pa., will perform at First United Methodist Church at 7 p.m. Sunday.

CORTLAND -- DivorceCare, a 13-week divorce recovery group, will meet at Cortland Trinity Baptist Church at 7 p.m. Tuesdays starting this week. The cost is $50. Call (330) 637-1421.
