Hope program
YOUNGSTOWN -- A five-part discussion series, "Rediscovering Youngstown's Spirit of Dynamism & amp; Hope" will be at 9:15 a.m. Sundays from Oct. 7 to Nov. 4 at St. John's Episcopal Church.
Speakers and topics include, Atty. Jim Callen of Northeast Ohio Legal Services, moving beyond corruption, Oct. 7; Drs. John Russo and Sherry Linkon of Youngstown State's University's Labor Management Relations Center, conflict and the shaping of Youngstown, Oct. 14; H. William Lawson, executive director of the Mahoning Valley Historical Society, housing and neighborhoods, Oct. 21; Dr. Victor Wan-Tatah, professor of religious studies at YSU, race and ethnicity, Oct. 28, and retired YSU professor Dr. George Beelen, will talk on the people of the valley, on Nov. 4. Ordination set
NEWTON FALLS -- Geraldine MacNeil, who has been serving as pastor of First Congregational Church of Newton Falls since July 1, will be ordained by the church at 3 p.m. Sunday. McNeil received her masters of divinity degree from the Boston School of Theology. She had served in United Methodist Churches in New England for four years. A reception will follow.
Pastor installation
HUBBARD -- The Rev. James Zingale will be installed as pastor of Grace Lutheran Church at 10:30 a.m. Sunday. He earned his masters of divinity degree at Trinity Lutheran Seminary in Columbus., and his master's in theology at Lutheran Seminary in St. Paul, Minn. He had served as senior pastor at Calvary Lutheran in Columbus. A dinner will follow.
Workshop set
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Rev. Wayne Robinson, minister of music at New Salem Baptist in Charlotte, N.C., and a professor of music, will take part in a music workshop and choir concert at 6:30 p.m. Friday at Third Baptist Church.
Youth advocate talk
GIRARD -- The Rev. Gerson Correia de Lacerda will speak on advocacy for street children in San Paulo, Brazil at 7 p.m. Oct. 1 at First Presbyterian Church. He is the president of the Presbyterian seminary and pastor of First Independent Presbyterian Church of Osasco, both in San Paulo. His visit is sponsored by Eastminster Presbytery.
Mission scheduled
CORTLAND -- The Rev. Michael Crosby of Milwaukee, Wis., will speak at a mission at St. Robert Bellarmine Church. Talks are at 9:45 a.m. and 7 p.m. Sept. 24 to 27. The focus of the week is compassion as the core of spiritual life. Father Crosby is an author who has presented programs throughout the world.
Novena at shrine
NORTH JACKSON -- A nine-day novena in honor of St. Theresa, the Little Flower, will be Sept. 23 to Oct.1 at the National Shrine of Our Lady of Lebanon. Prayers will be said at 7 p.m. each day.
