At family farm, everyone has a sunny disposition

Published: Sun, September 9, 2001 @ 12:00 a.m.

Roger Martig checks some of the sunflowers blooming in the family owned Martig Farms' fields on Mock Road in Beloit. At right, Martig's grandson Roger C. Martig shows handfuls of the small black sunflower seeds used in the farm's Birds Luv 'Em brand birdseed. The Martigs say dairy farming is the main business at the fourth-generation family farm, but sunflower farming and bird feed have become a profitable sideline.

See Sunflowers on today's Business Page, E3.
