Girard police investigate scam

Published: Sat, September 1, 2001 @ 12:00 a.m.

GIRARD -- Police are investigating a report of men claiming to be from the water department who took $750 from a Morris Avenue home.

Capt. Frank Bigowsky said no similar incidents have been reported to police.

"We'll probably check with other agencies to see if they have similar reports," he said. "Usually when you have occurrences like this, it's happened somewhere else."

The resident told police she was talking with two men, who said they were from the water department, outside her home Thursday afternoon. The men told her they were looking for a water leak.

When she returned to her home, she found that $750 had been taken from a drawer in her bedroom.

Neighbors told the resident they saw a sport utility vehicle parked in the neighborhood and the occupant appeared to be watching her house.
