Religious award

COLUMBIANA -- Twins Jay L. and Jennifer L. Williamson, the children of Jay and Ruth Williamson of Columbiana, recently received the Chi-Rho Religious Emblem Award on Scouting given by the Eastern Orthodox Committee on Scouting. Each youth received a certificate and pin given by the Rev. John Steffaro of St. John's Orthodox Church, Campbell. Jay is an altar boy at the church.

84th anniversary

YOUNGSTOWN -- Jerusalem Baptist Church will celebrate its 84th anniversary with a special guest, the Rev. Earnest Ellis of Antioch Baptist Church, and Pastors Lewis Macklin II and Joe Jennings at 3 p.m. Sunday.

Singer performs

CANFIELD -- Larry Ford will be appearing in concert at 7 p.m. Dec. 2 at the Western Reserve United Methodist Church. The tenor has been featured on the Bill and Gloria Gaither Homecoming series of concerts. Call (330) 792-5805.

Miracle anniversary

BOARDMAN -- St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church will observe the 19th Anniversary of the Miracle of Damascus from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday. The evening will include a Byzantine Liturgy at 6 p.m. and a video presentation of the latest occurrences in Soufanich in Damascus, Syria.

The Miracle of Damascus is the multiple apparitions of Christ and Virgin Mary to Myrna Nazour, a Greek-Catholic woman who is married to an Orthodox man. Since 1982, Myrna experienced stigmata, or olive oil oozing from her hands, during prayers. A copy of the Icon of Our Lady of Kazan, kept in Nazour's house, started oozing olive oil in 1982. The messages she received were for the restoration of lost church unity. Nazour visited St. Mary's Church in 1986.

Prayer service

WARREN -- The Evangelical Ministers Fellowship of Warren will have a community prayer service at noon Tuesday at Bazetta Baptist Church. Prayers will focus on President Bush and the United States and its military.

Growth conference

YOUNGSTOWN -- Union Baptist Church will have its annual Church Growth Conference from Tuesday through Thursday. This year's theme is Rekindling The Fire of Faith. The pre-registration fee is $10. Registration is $15 during the event. Classes to be offered are: Spiritual gifts and their proper application, stewardship, spirit-filled leadership and the ministry of music. Classes will begin at 6:30 p.m. A general assembly is at 8:15 p.m. each night.

Singers to appear

CORTLAND -- Mission, a group of ministers and vocalists from the World Help ministry in Forest, Va., will appear in concert at 9:30 a.m. Dec. 2 in Cortland Trinity Baptist Church. This ministry will present As We Worship You, a concert utilizing a video presentation from its campaigns. An offering will be taken to buy Bibles for China. Call (330) 637-1421.

Novena set at shrine

NORTH JACKSON -- The National Shrine of Our Lady of Lebanon will have its Christmas Novena in honor of the Infant Jesus at 7 p.m. Dec. 15 to 23. Prayer intentions can be mailed to the shrine, 2759 N. Lipkey Road, North Jackson 44452. Call (330) 538-3351.
