Man faces burglary and arson charges
YOUNGSTOWN -- A 37-year-old man charged with committing aggravated arson and burglary at an elderly woman's South Side residence is in Mahoning County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bond.
He's behind bars pending a 1:30 p.m. Dec. 4 preliminary hearing before Municipal Judge Robert Milich.
Municipal Judge Beth Kobly set the bond for Willie Frank Hill Jr. of West LaClede Avenue on Friday, during his initial court appearance. Hill had been arrested on warrants Wednesday at his residence by the Mahoning County Violent Crimes Task Force.
Hill was making roof and porch repairs Nov. 11 at the West Dewey Avenue residence of the 75-year-old woman, who was sleeping inside, when a witness reported seeing him enter the house through a second-floor window and remove a TV and other items to the roof. Someone yelled at Hill, who then put the items back inside, exited the window and climbed down a ladder.
When someone saw flames coming from a window and told Hill the house was ablaze, Hill ran into the house, awakened the occupant and extinguished the fire, a witness told police. The case was investigated by city police and the fire department's arson investigation unit.
