MEN

Texas Lutheran 82, Thiel 81

COLUMBUS -- Zeke Rodriguez hit two free throws with 15 seconds remaining to give the Bulldogs the victory in the Lutheran Brotherhood Capital Classic. It was the opener for both teams. Junior forward A.H. Davis of Boardman scored 22 points for Thiel.

Geneva 71, Lake Erie 57

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- Stefan Grundberg poured in 21 points and Terrance Ward contributed 15 points for the Golden Tornadoes (2-1). Mike Rustifo scored 14 points to lead Lake Erie (0-1).

Westminster 74, Notre Dame College 62

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- Rick Giordano scored 16 points and Andy Podbielski tacked on 14 more for the Titans (1-0), in the Buzz Ridl Classic. Dave Hilborn scored 15 points for Notre Dame (0-2).

Mount Union 85, Pitt-Greensburg 54

ALLIANCE -- Todd Richards led four double-figure scorers with 13 points to pace the Purple Raiders (1-0) in the Mount Union Tournament. Dan Vaughn added 12 points on 6-for-9 scoring while Brad Gerard and Jeremiah Harding each had 11 points for the winners. Nate Watkins paced Pitt-Greensburg (0-1) with 12 points.

Grove City 77, Allegheny 64

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Ian Dean scored 15 points and Jim Fetzner had 13 more as Grove City (1-0) scored 45 points in the second half to rally from a 36-32 halftime deficit. Ryan Meerstein scored 19 points for Allegheny (0-1) in the 2001 West Penn Classic game.

WOMEN

Bethany 66, Mount Union 51

MEADVILLE, Pa. -- Kelly Richardson, Katie Hardie and Kiki Cohen scored 21, 15 and 14 points respectively for Bethany. Hardie is a graduate of Cardinal Mooney while Cohen graduated from Liberty. Julie Cerimele of Boardman hit for 14 points for Mount Union. It was the season opener for both teams.

Capital 80, Thiel 50

COLUMBUS -- Tenise Moffis scored 16 points to lead Capital (1-0) in the opening round of the Lutheran Brotherhood Capital Classic. Capital led 38-17 at the break. Amanda Swanson scored 17 points for Thiel (0-1).

Carson-Newman 65, Slippery Rock 55

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Monica Ashburn scored 17 points and Kara Caldwell had 11 more to lead Carson-Newman in the opening round of the United Electric Tip-Off Classic.

Shelbey Wardman scored 16 points for Slippery Rock while Jackie Altenweg and Erin Frankovich evenly shared 24 points.

Shawnee State 76, Westminster 59

PORTSMOUTH -- Mandy Goin hit on nine of 10 shots and scored 26 points for Shawnee State (2-0). Samor Hines scored 17 points and Robin Thayer, a graduate of South Range High School, added 13 points for the Titans (0-1).
