ERIE, Pa. -- Sharon took advantage of a failed Mercyhurst Prep on-side kickoff at the start of the third quarter, to get the deciding points in a 14-7 District 10 playoff victory Friday.
Mercyhurst Prep (9-1) was awarded a 15-yard personal foul penalty called on Sharon at the close of the first half.
So the Lakers tried the on-side kickoff, which was returned by Jim Morocco from the Sharon 45 to the Mercyhurst 38.
Eight plays later, Sharon (7-3) quarterback Mike Schneider scored on an 8-yard run. Morocco made a place kick for the extra point and a 14-7 lead.
Mercyhurst Prep dominated the statistics with 281 total yards, compared to 118 for Sharon.
Sharon will play Northeast, which beat Reynolds for the District 10 championship Nov. 9 at 7 p.m. at Erie Veteran Stadium.
