Drawbacks

Crosses over two underground tunnels.

Loss of public space and parklike area.

Traffic making left turns from Market Street and Wick Avenue may back up occasionally.

Benefits

Provides the most public space.

Functions as a pedestrian crossing device.

Safer area for pedestrians.

Keeps all existing monuments in the central square.

Opportunity to create aesthetically pleasant features.

Eliminates potential conflict with one underground tunnel.

Left-turning traffic well served.

Drawbacks

Difficult traffic movement.

Creates more complex traffic routing.

Crosses over one underground tunnel.

More difficult construction and possible increased costs.

Vehicle capacity may prove inadequate within 20 years should downtown grow significantly.
