Man to stand trail on firearm charges

SHARON, Pa. -- Michael D. Harris, 24, of Chicago, has been ordered to stand trial on charges of being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm and possession of a firearm with an altered or obliterated serial number.
Police said Harris fired the fatal shot that killed Edward Boles, 38, of Meek Street, in an apartment on North Water Avenue on Oct. 20.
Boles and another man went to the apartment to rob the occupants and attacked Harris with a baseball bat, police said. Harris was able to grab a .32 caliber handgun and fire several shots at the pair, one of them striking Boles in the abdomen.
Boles and his accomplice, Jody Gabriele, 40, of Elm Avenue, fled the apartment and Boles was found lying on the ground a couple of blocks from the scene.
Gabriele was found in a car and was jailed on assault, robbery and other charges.
Harris had a preliminary hearing Thursday before District Justice James McMahon who ordered him held for trial on $50,000 bond. Harris remains in Mercer County Jail.
