Homeless man arrested
AUSTINTOWN -- Police arrested a homeless man early today after he acted as if he were going to jump off the Mahoning Avenue bridge over state Route 11. The man, 42, climbed over the rail of the bridge after spotting police around 3 a.m. An officer grabbed the man by his shirt and coat and pulled him back over the rail. Police think the man wanted attention and did not want to harm himself. He was taken to Forum Health Northside Medical Center by Lane Ambulance for observation. Police are planning to charge him with disorderly conduct.
$20 bill photocopied
AUSTINTOWN -- An employee at the Kirk Road Car Wash found 44 color photocopies of a $20 bill in a trash can Wednesday morning. The copies were on 22 sheets of copy paper. The color on the copies had been distorted due to rain.
Items taken in burglary
AUSTINTOWN -- The East Webb Road home of a 79-year-old woman was ransacked Wednesday evening, according to police reports. Items stolen from the home included numerous medications, a lap-top computer and jewelry. The daughter-in-law of the 79-year-old woman found the home in disarray and called police at 8 p.m. Police said the thieves entered the home by breaking into a garage door.
Fire at Roth Bros.
AUSTINTOWN -- Fire caused $5,000 in damage to the Roth Bros. building on Crum Road early today. Fire department officials said the blaze started in a trash bin inside the building's side door. It then spread up a wall and to the roof of the building. Firefighters arrived at the building at 3 a.m. The building was not occupied at the time and there were no injuries.
