BUCS NOTES From Atlanta

Published: Sat, May 26, 2001 @ 12:00 a.m.

Scratched: Braves 3B Chipper Jones was scratched from the starting lineup due to flu-like symptoms. He pinch hit in the eighth and flied out to right.

Finisher: Braves pitcher Greg Maddux has 101 career complete games.

Hurting: Atlanta LF B.J. Surhoff missed his fifth consecutive game because of lower back muscle spasms.

Out in the field: Pirates catcher Jason Kendall, Pittsburgh's regular catcher, made his second career start in left field and made a diving catch of leadoff hitter Quilvio Veras' foul drive in the corner.

Streak: The Pirates' Brian Giles extended his hitting streak to nine games with a first-inning single. Giles had gone 36 at-bats without striking out before being called out on strikes in the eighth.
