PENN STATE Banquet recognizes minority students
SHARON, Pa. -- The advisory board of the Penn State Shenango Minority Affairs Committee will have its sixth annual Minority Student Recognition Banquet at the campus at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.
The program is open to the public; tickets are $12, with proceeds benefiting the Minority Student Scholarship Fund.
The banquet recognizes Penn State Shenango minority students who recently have graduated and those students who have achieved dean's list standing.
A highlight of the evening will be the presentation of scholarships to current Penn State students and high school graduates who are enrolled for the fall semester at the campus.
Speaker: Celeste R. Warren of Schwenksville, Pa., a graduate of West Middlesex High School, will be the guest speaker.
Warren was a member of the women's basketball and volleyball teams at West Middlesex and earned an athletic scholarship to play volleyball at the University of Kentucky in fall 1981.
She majored in telecommunications and earned a master's degree at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, and is now director of human resources for the Mid-Atlantic Regional Business Group for Merck and Co. Inc., one of the nation's leading pharmaceutical companies.
Warren has received numerous awards related to her career, including the NAACP Image Award.
