The township fire department recently hired five new firefighters, including its first female firefighter. They are:
Gloria Grande is from Vienna Township. She has been a firefighter and paramedic with the Howland Township Fire Department for three years and is certified in fire prevention. She also is a full-time employee of St. Elizabeth Health Center, where she serves as a mobile intensive care unit technician.
Thomas Roberts is a Canfield resident. He has been a part-time firefighter and emergency medical technician in the Cardinal Joint Fire District, which serves Canfield Township and the city of Canfield, for seven years.
William Glaser is a Canfield resident. He has been a part-time firefighter with the Cardinal Joint Fire District since 1992 and was a captain with the fire district before being hired in Boardman. He also is a paramedic and was previously emergency medical services director.
Reade Allen is from Kent. He has been with the Liberty Township Fire Department for one year. Before that, he had been a member of the Hiram Fire Department since 1996. He also is a paramedic.
Jonathan Lewis is a Boardman resident. He spent four years in the Army as a paratrooper and was a warehouse manager for Modern Builders Supply in Youngstown. He is the son of Dan Lewis, longtime Boardman firefighter who retired as assistant chief.
