Rams get ICL crown

NORTH JACKSON -- Ashley Ault pitched a five-hitter, while Holly Mills contributed a triple, two singles and three RBIs, as the Mineral Ridge High softball team topped Jackson-Milton 5-3 to clinch the Inter-County League championship.
It marked the Rams' second straight outright ICL championship under coach Gene Cheredar and assistant Dan Pringle. The team now sports a 17-2 record, including 12-0 in the ICL.
Ault (17-2) struck out five and walked one to best Corey Velk (11-10), who pitched a six-hitter with eight strikeouts and six walks.
Mills slugged a two-run triple to highlight Mineral Ridge's four-run second inning, and she also had a pair of singles.
Velk also had two singles for Jackson-Milton, while Lea Fenton led the way with a pair of singles and two RBIs.
The Rams and Bluejays will play again Thursday at Lakeview High in a Division IV district tournament semifinal game.
Boardman 4, Manchester 1: BOARDMAN -- Audrey Martinko had three hits and drove in three runs to lead Boardman past Akron Manchester.
Jennifer Pancake scattered five hits in picking up her sixth victory of the season. Gina Rango also doubled for the Spartans (17-5), ranked No. 2 in Division I of the Associated Press poll.
Manchester (21-3), ranked No. 2 in Division III of the poll, was led by Adrienne Howe with two hits, while Nicole Weible also doubled.
