Jim Tressel to speak
BOARDMAN -- Ohio State University football coach Jim Tressel will be the speaker at the Boardman Community Student-led Interfaith Baccalaureate service at 7 p.m. May 13 at Westminster Presbyterian Church.
The Judeo-Christian event for Boardman seniors and their families is held at a different location each year.

MUC president visits
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Youngstown District Conference for the Youngstown District of the United Methodist Church will be at 7 p.m. Monday at Church Hill United Methodist Church.
The speaker will be Dr. John L. Ewing Jr., who is in his first year as president of the Methodist-affiliated Mount Union College in Alliance. The Rev. Dr. Gary Olin, the district superintendent, will preside.
The district represents 57 congregations with 18,000 members in Mahoning, Trumbull, Columbiana and Portage counties.
Actress to appear
HUBBARD -- Donna Douglas, who played Elly May on the 1960s television show "The Beverly Hillbillies," will appear at Crossing Paths Ministry's spring banquet at 6:30 p.m. May 18 at the Brentford House in Hubbard. YOUNGSTOWN -- Veronica Chapman of Faith Tabernacle United Holy Church in Cleveland will speak at 7 p.m. May 24 to 27 during revival services at Beulah Temple U.H.C.
POLAND -- Poland Presbyterian Church is beginning events that will lead to its 200th anniversary celebration May 5, 2002.
On Sunday, there will be Founder's Day activities at the 9 and 11 a.m. services. A luncheon will follow the second service. At 1:30 p.m., there will be an organ recital by Michael Beattie, the church's former director of music who is now the director of operations for the Louisville (Ky.) Orchestra.

Grief recovery program
MCDONALD -- GriefShare is a 13-week grief recovery education and support program that begins at 6:30 p.m. Sunday at Woodland Park United Methodist Church. The faith-based program uses seminars with videos on topics related to death and grief. Participants may join at any time and are encouraged to attend more than one series to aid recovery. Home repair program
YOUNGSTOWN -- Volunteers from St. Mark's Lutheran Church have been making repairs to the Youngstown home of a congregation member. The Aid Association for Lutherans provided a $3,500 "Helping Hands" grant to provide materials for the work. The association provides the grants for members of Lutheran congregations who can't afford home repairs.

ERIE, Pa. -- The Erie Catholic Diocese has launched a $35 million campaign, "Celebrating Yesterday, Creating Tomorrow," in preparation for the diocese's 150th anniversary in 2003. The two-year campaign is for parishes, schools and diocesan ministries in its 13 northwestern Pennsylvania counties. Campaigns have begun in six parishes and the remaining 121 parishes will join in the fall.
The diocese wants to establish endowment funds for evangelization, education, Catholic Charities and clergy health and retirement. There will also be two capital improvement funds, one for educational facilities and one for Catholic Charities agencies. The last major fund-raising campaign from 1984 to 1987 raised $13 million. Mercer County is the southernmost county in the diocese.
