CAMPBELL -- A memorial service was Thursday at Brookfield Cemetery Chapel for William H. Armstrong, 71, of 327 Jackson St., who died of cancer Tuesday morning at home.
Mr. Armstrong was born Aug. 20, 1929, in Youngstown, a son of Marshal and Mildred Evans Twigg, and was a lifelong area resident.
He was a machinist, repairman and oiler for Wean United for 21 years before retiring in 1991 and previously had been a radar technician for the Air Force for 20 years before retiring in 1966. He served in the Korean War and was a member of VFW of Struthers.
Besides his wife, the former Vivian Palmer, whom he married Jan. 16, 1971, he leaves four sons, John Hassler of Orlando, Fla., Edward Hassler of Alganac, Mich., David Hassler in North Carolina and William L. Armstrong of Struthers; three daughters, Lucil Bowdish of Lake Milton, Colleen Imel of De Funiak Springs, Fla., and Susan Groves of Erie; a brother, Clifford Armstrong of Youngstown; two sisters, Marsha Pratt of Hubbard and Jennie Goff of Tampa, Fla.; 23 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
