OTHER BUSINESS Commissioners meeting

Published: Wed, May 2, 2001 @ 12:00 a.m.

Lawrence County Commissioners handled this business Tuesday:

Agreed to pay Glance & amp; Associates of Pittsburgh, an architectectural firm that specializes in historical restoration, $2,875 to revise plans to restore the county courthouse clocktower and cupola. Commissioners rejected a bid by Fulkerson Construction of New Castle to install the clocktower because bids were about $100,000 more than expected. Commissioners say Glance may be able to adjust the plan to reduce the cost of a new tower. The original clocktower was removed in the 1950s after years of neglect.

Authorized Prime Companies Inc. of New Castle to begin the second phase of work to install high-speed, wireless Internet connections in the government center. They will be paid $8,525.58.

The county retirement board is considering offering an early retirement incentive to workers. The details are not determined yet, but it will likely be based on age and years of employment, board members said.
