PREP BASEBALL Adams triggers Ursuline victory

Chaney pitcher Gary Boris tossed a one-hitter against Rayen.

WARREN -- Senior center fielder Justin Adams went 3-for-3 with a double and four RBIs as Ursuline High beat Warren Harding 11-1 in a Steel Valley Conference baseball game Monday.

Erin Satterlee also had two hits and two RBIs for the Irish (11-6), who have won five of their last six games.

Boardman leads the Steel Valley Conference with a 6-0 slate, while the Irish are second (5-2), Fitch is 3-3 and Harding is 6-10, 2-5.

Ursuline sophomore Josh Conkey (3-1) went the route on a five-hitter with five strikeouts.

Boardman 15, Poland 4: BOARDMAN -- Kris King and Mark Sikora had three hits apiece for Boardman (16-3), which won its ninth straight.

Sean Curry added two hits, including a double, and, on the mound, had four strikeouts and walked three in a five-hitter.

King and Rick Mosco both homered, while Mike Krieger singled twice and Kevin Gesacion doubled.

For Poland (11-4), Jeff Macabobby had a home run, while Jon Habuda doubled. Cole Budinsky (3-1) took the loss.

Fitch 5, Salem 4: AUSTINTOWN -- Steve Burnich (3-0) picked up the victory and singled home Kevin Pontius with the winning run in the bottom of the seventh for the Falcons (15-7), who have won five in a row. Fitch scored three runs in the sixth to tie the score at 4.

With one out, Pontius walked and went to second on an infield single by Shawn Barber. Burnich then delivered the game-winner.

B.J. DeCerbo had a homer and a single for Fitch, while Brian Cushman had two singles for Salem.

Struthers 8, Niles 4: NILES -- Bob Benson went 4-for-4 with a triple and a double, while Pat Watt homered for the Wildcats (11-3, 5-2 Metro Athletic Conference), who have won three in a row.

Jared Bogan added two hits for Struthers.

For Niles (10-8, 3-5), P.J. Rishel had two hits, including a double, and Kyle Barker singled twice.

Chaney 11, Rayen 1: YOUNGSTOWN -- Junior Gary Boris had eight strikeouts and one walk in five innings in a City Series one-hitter at Oakland Field.

Juan Serrano had two hits, including a double, while John Campbell had two hits and two RBIs for Chaney (7-8, 2-0).

In the third inning for Rayen, Jamal Monroe tripled to knock in Alex Stewart, who walked.

Youngstown Christian 11, Jefferson Christian 1: YOUNGSTOWN -- Freshman Mike Byrdy and sophomore Pete Margiotta combined on a five-hitter at Ipe Field as Youngstown Christian (7-1-1) completed a three-game, three-day sweep over Jefferson County Christian.

At the plate in the five-inning game, Byrdy had a triple and Margiotta two singles. Jefferson, which lost to the Eagles twice on Saturday, is 1-10 in its first season back in baseball.

Howland 7, Warren JFK 6: WARREN -- Ryan Stredney and Ron Hooper each had two hits for the Tigers (7-6).

A four-run fourth inning put Howland on top 7-3.

Nick Miller had three hits for the Eagles (8-6).

Lakeview 4, Hubbard 0: HUBBARD -- Dave Fieischer threw a three-hitter and Andy Mascioli went 2-for-3 for the Bulldogs.

The Eagles are 7-6, 7-2.

West Branch 12, Northwest 10: BELOIT -- Trailing 10-1, West Branch scored 11 runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Josh Hurtord had three hits and Matt Martig a pair, and both knocked in two runs for the Warriors (11-6, 5-5 Northeastern Buckeye Conference).
