Civic center board
YOUNGSTOWN -- City council is following through with plans to empower a board to oversee development of a downtown civic center.
Council is expected to appropriate $100,000 Wednesday for the arena board to spend on professional services, such as a lawyer.
Lawmakers also are expected to authorize the city board of control to rent an office to the arena agency for $1 a year for up to five years. The office will be on the second floor of the city-owned Wick building downtown.
Council and the board reached an understanding last month on their roles in the proposed $40 million-plus project.
A contract between the two spelling out specifics is expected in the next few months.
