CLASS B ROUNDUP Falcons slip past Riordan
The loss spoiled a good outing by David John McClurg.
STRUTHERS -- Dan Leonard threw a five-hitter, striking out six, and hit a two-run home run in the first inning to provide the winning margin as the Astro Falcons pinned a 3-1 setback on Riordan Sports Friday in Class B Baseball League.
Leonard (2-2) got out of a bases-loaded jam in the fifth inning without giving up a run for the Astros (13-6).
David John McClurg took the loss for Riordan (10-9) despite allowing no hits after the second inning. McClurg retired 21 of the last 23 he faced after giving up the home run in the first inning.
James Lade had a triple and scored the only run for Riordan (10-9).
Youngstown Propane 6, Rondinelli Tuxedo 3: Drew Apthorpe gave up three runs on four hits in the first inning, then allowed just one single the rest of the game as Propane remained tied for first place with Line Drive Academy (16-3).
Apthorpe struck out seven and did not walk a man as he won his second game of the season.
Paul Suhar had three singles and drove in three runs for the winners while Chris Russo had two hits, including a two-run home run in the fourth inning.
For Rondinelli (6-13), Dean Palumbaro had a two-run double in the first inning and he scored on George Rohan's double.
Line Drive Academy 9, Becdir 1: Ryan Carr (4-1) scattered seven hits.
Carr struck out seven and did not walk a batter. Mike Hanck had three hits including a two-run home run in the fifth inning.
Hanck finished with four runs batted in. Ryan Vaughn and Sean Curry also had three hits apiece for Line Drive which pounded out 13 hits in the contest.
Ralph Festa had an RBI double for Becdir (8-11).
Lazart 7, Livi Steel 3: Lazart won its second straight as Jonathan Poma and Robert Stull each had three hits for the winners.
Poma had a two-run double in the six-run fifth inning for Lazart (4-15).
Travis Garrett also had a RBI double in the fifth inning while Brandon Keck gave up three first-inning runs but shut out Livi (7-12) the rest of the way.
Keck struck out four and walked just one as he won for the first time in five decisions.
Elliott Stevenson had three singles for Livi, including one which drove in two runs in the first inning.
Youngstown Express 7, Roth Brothers 5: Express (10-9) scored two runs in the top of the sixth to move into a tie for fourth with Riordans.
Bob Kaaikaula had two hits, including a double for the Express, while Kevin Koliniar (3-0) struck out nine in the complete game victory.
For Roth (5-14), Steve Ripple had three hits and two RBIs.
