Woman charged with Net fraud misses hearing

AUSTINTOWN -- A Leetonia woman charged with stealing more than $13,000 through the Internet auction site eBay missed her pretrial hearing in Mahoning County Court here.
Judge David D'Apolito was expected to sign a warrant for the arrest of Saundra D. Melton, 41, of Walnut Street. She is charged with failure to appear, as well as four felony counts of fraud.
Austintown police reports say Melton, who used the Internet name "msmeltdown" and the e-mail address msmeltdown@yahoo.com, was selling laptop computers on eBay for $798 each.
The advertisement asked buyers to send a check to a post office box at Send It Packin' Plus on Canfield-Niles Road in Austintown.
The owner of Send It Packin' Plus contacted police in April after receiving several calls from people who said they had not received their purchases.
Complaints also were reported to the FBI and the Ohio Attorney General's Office from eBay users across the United States, Canada, France, Japan and Iran. Police have returned $3,183 in checks sent to Melton after her arraignment.
