NEW SPRINGFIELD -- The Youngstown Area Federation of Women's Clubs held its annual awards and scholarship luncheon May 16 at Fonderlac Country Club. Guest speaker was Cecil Duffett on the topic "Star Makers."
Millicent S. Counts was the recipient of the community service award. She is executive director of the United Methodist Community Center, known as the Pearl Street Mission.
Named as the YAFWC volunteer woman of the year was Ella Beveridge, secretary of Western Reserve Baptist Church and a former secretary at Youngstown State University. She has also served as editor of the club's newsletter for many years.
Scholarships: Recipient of the high school scholarship was Jeney Housel, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Housel of North Jackson, who attend Jackson-Milton High School. She plans to attend Kent State University to study special education and dance therapy. The non-traditional student scholarship was awarded to Melissa Hicks of Brookfield, a student at Youngstown State University majoring in elementary education.
The meditation was given by Hannah McNabb of Three Arts Club.
