Two receive jail sentences for stealing

MERCER, Pa. -- An area man who earlier this year pleaded guilty to receiving stolen property has been ordered to serve one to five years in a state prison.
On Thursday, Judge Francis Fornelli of Mercer County Common Pleas Court sentenced Bennie Richards Jr., 39, an inmate at the Mercer County jail.
Authorities attributed to Richards a string of burglaries, all on or about July 6 in the Hermitage, Sharon and Farrell areas.
Hermitage police, who arrested Richards on July 6, charged him with burglary, criminal mischief, three counts of unlawful taking and theft by receiving stolen property.
He pleaded guilty April 9 to receiving stolen property and the other charges were dismissed.
Judge Fornelli also sentenced a Farrell woman to 111/2 months to one year and 11 months in the county jail after she admitted stealing a set of sheets from a local department store.
Hermitage police arrested Loretta Smith, 37, Roemer Blvd., in August on a charge of retail theft. She pleaded guilty in April.
Smith told police she stole the sheets, valued at $21.97, from Wal-Mart so she could sell them to make money to support her drug habit.
Her sentenced is to be followed by three years' probation.
