Rewarding safety

CAMPBELL -- Responsible bicycle riding can be lucrative for city children this summer.

Campbell police officers will hand out safety citations to children wearing bicycle helmets while biking as part of AAA's Helmet Smart program. The citations can be redeemed for discount admission to Six Flags Ohio and food.

Citations may also be entered into drawings for new bicycles and free Six Flags admission.

Chief Gus Sarigianopoulos said the program was implemented to combat head injuries associated with bicycle accidents. Helmets reduce the risk of brain injury in such an accident by 85 percent.
