The city park and recreation commissioner handled these issues Thursday:
Approved a request by BoCor Producing of North Canton to drill a natural gas well at Tod Park. BoCor previously has drilled a well on city property on land controlled by the city water department. The well will be drilled near Tod Park's entrance road, not near where people use the fields, a company official said. The well will not interfere with the construction of the nearby Route 711 connector, expected in the next couple years.
Announced city swimming pools and playgrounds will open June 13.
Announced the park department's grass-cutting project, in cooperation with other city departments, started May 22.
Approved allowing a new leadership program to use the old South High fieldhouse from June 25-28. Leadership Education and Development (LEAD) will conduct a leadership and basketball camp for youths 8 to 18. The goal is to develop leadership skills of the youths, who will be from low- and moderate-income families, who have displayed those skills in their school, church or community.
