BASEBALL

BB Rooners 5-9, Ashtabula A's 4-5 -- In the opener Dave Knechtel hit a solo homer with two out in the last of the seventh to snap a 4-4 tie. In the nightcap Nolan Reimold hit a three-run homer.

Babe Ruth (Age 13)

Astros 14-11, Motif's 8-5 -- Justin Wolf went 3-for-3 in the opener and Jimmy Pasquine had two hits, one a double, with three runs scored in the nightcap. The Astros are 7-3.Astros 9, Rondinelli 1 -- Billy Couchenour allowed just one hit and his team had 13 hits behind him. Billy Sattler went 3-for-4.

Pony

Poland's David Heating 15, Austintown Landmark 5 -- Tyler Kelley had three hits while winning pitcher Mike Swoboda struck out 16 batters and had two hits.Canfield Electric Device 11, Hangware Trophy 0 -- Justin Herberger had three singles while Jake Mosure had a 3-run homer.Boardman Bill's Place 11, Struthers Gridiron 4 -- Jim Hlebak went 4-for-4 with a homer and Chris Pechalk and Josh Moffie each had three hits. Dave Mathans had two hits for Struthers.Springfield Firemen 13, Boardman Testa Construction 3 -- Matt Morell had three hits while Michael Kampfer, Brady Hankinson and Anthony Morell each had two hits.Struthers Acordia Insurance 14, Lowellville Falcon Foundry 3 -- Jacob Leko and Matt Kotouch combined to strike out 12 and Mike DeMart homered.Campbell West & amp; Barker 12, Niles Cortland Bank 2 -- Justin Vrona pitched a two hitter while he, Bobby Dolan and Trey Soares each had three hits. Steve Telego had a hit and two RBIs for Niles.Springfield Firemen 14, Niles Indalex Aluminum 4 -- Michael Kampfer collected two hits, three runs and an unassisted double play.Poland Tangier's 5, Canfield Blue Cross 4 -- Dom Marchionda had a single, double and scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh on a wild pitch. For Canfield, Kyle Banna had a two-run homer in the sixth to tie it at 4-4.

SOFTBALLPony (14-under)

Mill Creek Marlowes Coffee 11, Niles Reese Funeral Home 0 -- Stefanie Grimaldi struck out 10 and had three hits while Sheila Kollar added two hits. For Niles, Erin Armstrong struck out eight.Southeastern Equipment 24, Aerotech Heating 10 -- Abby Tierney had a single and a double while Julie Cooper, Franquie Yazbek and Carolyn Ross each had two hits.Boardman Dart Trucking 6, Niles 5 -- Tricia Bailey threw a four-hitter with 10 strikeouts. Kelsy Mikesell threw a one-hitter for Niles.
