REFERENDUM Lawrence County

Published: Sun, July 29, 2001 @ 12:00 a.m.

Organizers of a petition drive to put a referendum on the Nov. 6 ballot need 1,275 signatures.

If enough signatures are gathered by Aug. 7, voters will decide if they want to convene a study commission to look at alternative forms of county government.

The study commission would meet for nine months, then come back to voters with a recommendation in the next general election.

Anyone wanting to sign a petition or circulate one should contact members of the Lawrence County League of Women Voters or Thomas Shumaker at (724) 658-1591.
