Mobile Medical Clinic

YOUNGSTOWN -- St. Elizabeth's Mobile Medical Clinic will be at the Salvation Army Youngstown Citadel & amp; Worship Center, 1501 Glenwood Ave., from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Monday. No appointment is needed. Check-ups, cancer screenings, blood pressure screenings, health information and referrals will be available.

New medical center

COLUMBIANA -- An open house for Salem Community Hospital's Columbiana Medical Center will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Aug. 5. The new facility at 750 E. Park Ave. will house the Columbiana Family Care Center, a primary care practice serving all ages; a satellite office of SCH's rehabilitation services department and mammography suite and offices for medical and surgical specialists. Visitors to the open house can tour the facility and receive free health screenings. Refreshments, door prizes and children's activities are planned.

Camp funds

YOUNGSTOWN -- The Mahoning Valley Area Office of the American Cancer Society has announced the Youngstown Police Department's 10th annual golf outing raised $6,600 for the society's Camp Friendship program. The program allows youths and young adults with cancer the opportunity to go to a camp. The funds raised by the police help pay for meals, lodgings and other expenses.

Volunteer training

CANFIELD -- The Mahoning Valley Area Office of the American Cancer Society will provide training for volunteers in its Reach to Recovery program. The women who overcame breast cancer will help newly diagnosed breast cancer patients with a temporary prosthesis, bra and nonmedical information. One session is Aug. 8 and the other is Sept. 8. Both are from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Call (888) 227-6446.

Talk with a Doc

YOUNGSTOWN -- Dr. John Barrett, director of podiatry at St. Elizabeth Health Center, will give the free Talk with a Doc program at 7 p.m. Aug. 8 at the hospital. Call (877) 700-4647.

Tests offered

CORTLAND -- Life Line Screening will offer carotid artery, abdominal aortic aneurysm, and an ankle brachial index test Aug. 9 at Cortland Christian Church. Bone density screening will also be available. The tests will also be offered Aug. 10 at the Niles Senior Citizen Center. Each test cost $40. Call (800) 407-4557.

Accreditation given

YOUNGSTOWN -- Physicians Medical Imaging Inc. of Youngstown has been awarded a three-year accreditation in MRI by The American College of Radiology. The award is given for high standards.

Blood pressure tests

NILES -- Forum Health is offering free blood pressure screenings, including:

UCommunity Health Connection at the Eastwood Mall from 9 to 11 a.m. and 3 to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Call (330) 544-1482.

UBeeghly Immediate Care in Boardman from 2 to 4 p.m. Aug. 7.

Health classes

WARREN -- Hillside Rehabilitation Hospital offers classes for stroke survivors from 6:15 to 7 p.m. Tuesday and Thursdays Aug. 2-23. Call (330) 841-3891. Classes for heart patients are from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. each Tuesday in August at Trumbull Memorial Hospital. Call (330) 841-9880.

Aerobics classes

YOUNGSTOWN -- "Bouncing Back," an aerobics class for breast cancer survivors and support program for women who recently had breast cancer surgery, meets at 10 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays Aug. 7 to Aug. 30 at the Trumbull County YWCA. For registration and more information, Call (330) 533-0546.

Diabetes classes

NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Diabetes self-management classes are being offered from 6 to 9 p.m. Aug. 8, 13, 15 and 20 at the St. Francis Hospital Conference Center, 1100 South Mercer St. There is a fee that may be covered by insurance. In addition, the diabetes support group will meet at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the St. Francis Diabetes Center, 217 N. Mill St. For details, call (724) 654-5433.

Diabetes study

PITTSBURGH -- Overweight people between 45 and 75 who have type 2 diabetes may participate in a long-term study of the effects of weight loss on type 2 diabetics. The University of Pittsburgh will track participants for 11.5 years. Call (800) 872-3653.
