Garden party planned
YOUNGSTOWN -- Jubilee Gardens will have its annual garden party in cooperation with the Ohio State University Mahoning County Extension from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 25 at the Briar Hill Community Garden site, 150 Lafayette St. Refreshments will be served, and there will be an opportunity to ask questions about the program. David Mines Jr., a security monitor and residential aide at the Mahoning County Chemical Dependency Program, was selected to have one of his poems published in the New Millennium Poets Anthology. Mines' poem, "Whisper's Fire," also has been submitted as a semifinalist in the Famous Poet Society's grand prize competition. Mines has been invited to attend the society's annual convention in Reno, Nev., in September to receive the Prometheus Muse of Fire Trophy.
