Police probe possible link to theft

Published: Thu, July 5, 2001 @ 12:00 a.m.

AUSTINTOWN -- Police are investigating a report that two men who stole cigarettes from a gas station in Weathersfield last week tried to break into a file cabinet at a gas station here on Monday.

Surveillance videos show that one of the men came into the BP gas station at 890 North Canfield-Niles Road and distracted a clerk while another man went into the manager's office. The first man then left.

An employee confronted the second man after she heard noises in the manager's office. The man was trying to pry open a file cabinet, she said.

He ran from the gas station when he was confronted.
