SALEM Charge expected in roommate stabbing case
The stabbing was preceded by a verbal dispute, police say.
SALEM -- Authorities expect to charge a city man today in the weekend stabbing of his roommate, police say.
Officers arrested the 43-year-old South Lincoln Avenue man, saying he stabbed and beat his 20-year-old roommate at about 8 p.m. Saturday.
Sgt. John Petrachkoff said charges against the 43-year-old probably will be filed today in Northwest Area Columbiana County Court. The man was in the county jail this morning.
Police responding to the report of a disturbance found both men bloodied after a fight that resulted from an argument. It's unclear what they were arguing about, Petrachkoff said.
Police say they believe a knife was used to stab the 20-year-old on the front of his torso, just below the breastbone. He also had bruises on his face. The weapon used in the stabbing has yet to be recovered, Petrachkoff said.
The 43-year-old had abrasions on his face.
Both men were taken to Salem Community Hospital, where the 43-year-old was treated.
The 20-year-old was transferred to Aultman Hospital in Canton. A report on his condition was unavailable this morning.
