MERCER, Pa. -- A Cleveland motorist remained in jail today after his arrest Friday on a variety of charges at a rest area along Interstate 79 in Deer Creek Township, Mercer County.
State police said that around 10 p.m. Friday, Ronald G. Carman, 40, accidentally swerved off the road, striking something that flattened a tire on his vehicle. He continued along the highway and pulled into the rest area.
He apparently had no spare tire and began bothering other patrons of the rest area, trying to get someone to give him a replacement tire, police said. Carman was arrested on charges of disorderly conduct, driving under the influence and public drunkenness.
He was arraigned Saturday before District Justice Ruth French, who ordered him held in Mercer County Jail with bond set at $10,000 pending a preliminary hearing.
