Notes from Cafaro Field

New face: The Scrappers added relief pitcher Marcos Mendoza to their roster. Mendoza recently signed with the Cleveland Indians as a fifth-round pick in the 2001 draft out of San Diego State University.
Playing in the rain: Scrappers front-office personnel were forced into action around 6:10 p.m. when heavy rain hit Cafaro Field. The tarp was rolled onto the field before rain subsided minutes later. The pregame rain didn't force any postponement in the first pitch.
Future stars? The Scrappers held Youth Baseball Day, with a number of teams parading around the field prior to the game. Teams participating were, from Brookfield, the Cubs, Tigers, Black, Gold, Cardinals, Dodgers, Yankees, Maroon, Phillies, Silver, Teal, Padres, Dark Blue, Foltz and White; from Howland, the Indians, Mariners and Bluebirds; from Liberty, Graes Windows Inc.; from Meander, Perry's Masonry; from Mineral Ridge, Chris's Dairy Queen and Grandpa's Lounge; and from Niles, McDonald's.
