Libraries in Trumbull and Mahoning Counties

MAHONING COUNTY

Summer Reading began June 1 at all public libraries in Mahoning County with the theme: "Where in the World are YOU Reading? Read for incentives! Read for fun! Mark your calendars and plan on attending any of the free programs held by the Public Library of Youngstown & amp; Mahoning County.

"African Adventure." Stories, craft and movie for all ages at Brownlee Woods, July 5, at 10 a.m.; Campbell, July 2, at 10 a.m.; Lowellville, July 18, at 2 p.m.; and Struthers, July 3, at 10 a.m.

"Amazing Animals in the U.S.A." Nature program presented by Helena Uber, Yellow Creek Park Naturalist. For children of all ages at Brownlee Woods, July 19; Campbell, July 18; and Struthers, July 17. All three programs begin at 10 a.m.

"Astounding Australia." Stories, craft and more for all ages at New Middletown, July 17, at 2 p.m.; and Struthers, July 31, at 10 a.m.

"Chase the Dragon's Tail: Fun with Origami." Stories, craft, games for children of all ages at Austintown, July 10, at 10 a.m.; Lake Milton, July 9, at 2 p.m.; and North Jackson, July 10, at 2 p.m.

"Far East Adventure." Craft and movie for children of all ages at West, July 31, at 10 a.m.

"Follow Me and My Computer." Fun from the 4 corners of the world at Brownlee Woods, July 16, at 10 a.m.; Campbell, July 30, at 2 p.m.; Canfield, July 3, at 10 a.m.; Greenford, July 11 at 1 p.m.; North, July 2, at 2 p.m.; Sebring, July 3, at 2 p.m.; and South, July 31, at 10 a.m.

"Games go Global." Games from around the world for children of all ages at Boardman, July 26 at 2 p.m.; Brownlee Woods, July 26, at 10 a.m.; Campbell, July 25, at 10 a.m.; Canfield, July 9, at 2 p.m.; and Struthers, July 11, at 2 p.m.

"Join Us As We Celebrate the Dances of Africa." Performed by the Harambee Dance Troupe of the Harambee Youth Organization. For children of all ages at East, July 25; North, July 27; and South, July 26. These special programs are scheduled for 10 a.m.

"Have a G'Day: An Australian Adventure." Stories, craft and games for all ages at Austintown, July 6, at 2 p.m.

"Hobbies, Hobbies, Hobbies." Come display your collection or hobby. Family program for all ages at Boardman, July 19, at 7 p.m. Prizes provided by the Friends of Boardman Library.

"Jambo! Hello from Africa." Stories, craft and games for children of all ages at Austintown, July 26, at 10 a.m.

"Lights! Camera! Action!" Join our cast of characters. A family fun program for all ages at Austintown, July 19, at 2 p.m.; Boardman, July 30, at 10 a.m.; Canfield, July 30, at 2 p.m.; East, July 17, at 2 p.m.; Main Library, July 24, at 2 p.m.; and West, July 24, at 10 a.m.

"Music Makes the World Go Round." Tune-ful program for all ages at East, July 11; North, July 13; and South, July 12. All three programs begin at 10 a.m.

"Musical Merriment: Tunes from Around the World." Songs and craft for all ages at Main Library, July 12, at 10 a.m.

"Passport to China." Stories and craft for children of all ages at Brownlee Woods, July 12; Campbell, July 11; East, July 18; North, July 20; South, July 19; and Struthers, July 24. All these special programs begin at 10 a.m. Fortune cookies will be served.

"South of the Border." Stories, craft, dancing, and more for children of all ages at North Lima, July 24, at 2 p.m.; Sebring, July 25, at 2 p.m.; and West, July 10, at 10 a.m.

"Travel 'Round the World." Stories, craft and creative dramatics for school-age children at West, July 3, at 10 a.m.

"What in the World Are We Making?" Crafts from around the world for children of all ages at Main Library, July 17, at 10 a.m. & amp; 2 p.m.; Boardman, July 12, at 2 p.m.; Canfield, July 17, at 10 a.m.; East, July 2, at 10 a.m.; Greenford, July 18, at 1 p.m.; North, July 6, at 10 a.m.; North Lima, July 17, at 2 p.m.; South, July 5, at 10 a.m.; and West, July 17, at 10 a.m.

"A World of Magical Fun with Porgie the Clown" Magic and more for the whole family at Main Library, July 30, at 11 a.m. Sponsored by the Friends of the Library.

"Where in the World are you Reading - Under the Sea." What's it like to dive beneath the sea? Presented by Chief Diver Bill Hack, Ben Kailer, Ron Moran, Joe Moran, Terry Alexander, Jeff Collingwood, Bud Collingwood, and Shirley Hack from the Mahoning County Sheriff's Department Dive Team. Get a close-up look at SCUBA gear, learn water safety and see photos of actual dives. For school-age children at Austintown, July 3; Boardman, July 20; Canfield, July 10; East, July 24; Sebring, July 31; Struthers, July 27; and West, July 6. All these special programs are scheduled for 1 p.m.

"Cold-Blooded Cousins." Explore the world of reptiles and amphibians with Mill Creek park Naturalist Ray Novotny. For children of all ages at Austintown, July 27, at 2 p.m.; Boardman, July 24, at 2 p.m.; Brownlee Woods, July 24, at 10 a.m.; Canfield, July 25, at 2 p.m.; and West, July 27, at 10 a.m.

"From There to Here." A detective trip through time and place. Presented by Theresa Seiders of the Western Reserve Historical Society. For school-age children at Campbell, July 5, at 2 p.m.; Canfield, July 12, at 2 p.m.; Main Library, July 26, at 10 a.m.; and Sebring, July 19, at 2 p.m.

"Dear Children of the Earth." Shirley Filisky, Recycling Division of Mahoning County/Green Team and Kim Lewis of Rural Recycling Education and Awareness Program present a program based on the popular children's book by Schim Schimmel. Story, craft and more for children of all ages at Canfield, July 5, at 2 p.m.; East, July 3, at 2 p.m.; Greenford, July 19, at 2 p.m.; North, July 18, at 2 p.m.; North Jackson, July 19, at 2 p.m.; North Lima, July 31, at 2 p.m.; and Sebring, July 26, at 10 a.m.

"WKBN Celebrity Storytellers." Fun for children of all ages at Boardman, July 17, at 10 a.m.

"Pajamas Time Stories." Slumbertime fun for ages 3-6 Main Library, July 19, at 7 p.m. Come in your P.J.'s.

"Time for Babies and Books" Books, songs, rhymes and more at: Boardman, July 5, at 9:30 a.m. (for babies 6-12 months) and 10:30 a.m. (for babies 13-23 months). Each baby in attendance must be accompanied by an adult.

"Come and Join the Fun." Stories and fun for children ages 3-6 at Boardman, Wednesdays, July 11, 18, 25, at 10 a.m. & amp; 1 p.m.; and Canfield, July 26, at 10 a.m. & amp; 1:30 p.m.

"Tales for Toddlers." Stories and fun for children ages 2-3 at Boardman, July 10, at 10 a.m. Each child must be accompanied by an adult.

"Friends of the Library Book Sales." Will be held at Main Library, July 5*, from 5:30-8:30 p.m.; July 6 & amp; 7, from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. *(Preview Night, members only)

"Friends of the Library Meeting" is scheduled at Lowellville, July 23, at 5:30 p.m.

"Free Blood Pressure Screening" by the Mahoning Chapter, American Red Cross, will be held at Austintown July 18, from 1-3 p.m.; Boardman, July 2, from 12:30 - 3 p.m.; Canfield, July 19, from 12:30 - 3:30 p.m.; Poland, (Town Hall Building), July 24, from 1-4 p.m.; Struthers, July 17, from 1-4 p.m.; and West, July 17, from 12-2 p.m.

"Grant Center: Grantseeking Basics Workshop." This introduction to the funding research process if a basic orientation for nonprofit organizations seeking information about funding sources at Main Library, Thursday, July 12, at 6:30 p.m. For reservation, call 330-744-8636 and press "2" at the phone prompt for "Reference."

Computer Classes at West Library

"Information Station." Learn how to find current information in magazines and newspapers using our online research database at West, call 330-799-7171 to schedule a date and time.

LIBRARY NOTES

All public libraries in Mahoning County will be closed July 4 for the holiday.

The Board of Trustees of the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County will meet on Thursday, June 14, at 1 p.m. in the Boardman Library meeting room, 7680 Glenwood Ave.

The Austintown Committee will meet at 3:30 p.m. before the regular Board meeting.

GIRARD LIBRARY

Closed Wednesday, in observance of Independence Day.

Thursday, 11 a.m. - As part of our Summer Reading Program, "Where in the world are you reading?" the first stop will be a journey to Mexico

Friday, 11 a.m. - Baby Time - music, stories, and songs for infants and their caregiver. The Teen Summer Reading Program continues with another prize drawing! Each week a $25 gift certificate will be given away! Good Luck!

July 9, 6:30 p.m. - Family Story Time - join us in places around town. (Places to be announced)

July 11, 11 a.m. - As part of our Summer Reading Program, "Where in the world are you reading?" the second stop will be a visit to Africa.

July 11, 6:30 p.m. - Monthly Book Discussion Group - This month's book is Frank McCourt's "Tis: a memoir

July 16, 6:30 p.m. - Family Story Time - Join us in places around town. (Places to be announced)
