HELPING HANDS Volunteering
Volunteer Services Agency is the resource for volunteer recruitment, placement and management for people of all ages in the Mahoning Valley. It sponsors the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program, which places people 55 and older, and the Volunteer Center, the clearinghouse for volunteer opportunities. SHORT TERM OPPORTUNITIES
Camp Rachel: Volunteers needed for six-week summer camp sponsored by Mahoning County Council for Retarded Citizens. Responsibilities may include feeding children, helping children dress and undress for pool activities, diapering younger children and assisting with outdoor play.
Marian Living Center: People needed to assist with preparing for and helping with the center's bingo fund raiser from 1 to 8 p.m. July 22.
Ohio State University Extension (4H Youth Development): Various community events.
CAN YOU HELP?
Volunteer help also is needed for these agencies:
Antoine Sisters Adult Day Care: People needed to assist the elderly with various crafts and with feeding at meal time. Help also needed to get clients on and off the bus.
Associated Neighborhood Center: Volunteers needed to assist children in kindergarten through second grade with reading assignments and comprehension skills. An assistant also is needed to help get disabled persons on and off center vehicles.
Boys and Girls Club of Youngstown: Person needed to assist staff in service delivery of educational and athletic programs. This person also may be asked to perform receptionist and clerical duties.
Fish Samaritan House: Person needed to help with store maintenance as well as to hang clothes and sort them by category.
Glenellen Senior Suites & amp; Villas: People needed to play cards, walk, talk garden or paint nails for and with residents.
Hope House: People needed to assist with child care, clerical support and cleaning rooms.
Lake to River Girl Scouts: A volunteer is needed to deliver a regular Girl Scout program to girls who drop in at the troops that meet at the center. This person also will help maintain a Girl Scout office at the center.
Neighborhood Ministries: Volunteers needed to assist instructors with tutoring children in kindergarten through sixth grade in all academic areas.
Park Vista: A medical escort is needed to assist with paperwork for appointments and to help walk or pushresidents to the health-care center's lobby.
Rescue Mission of Mahoning Valley: Meal services needed for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The mission will accept group of individual volunteers, who must be available between 6:30 to 8 a.m. for breakfast, 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. for lunch and/or 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. for supper.
Veterans Administration: Volunteer needed to drive a 15-passenger vehicle. The driver will take veterans from the Youngstown VA outpatient clinic on Belmont Avenue to VA facilities in the Cleveland area.
