NEW YORK-PENN Scrappers suffer 8-2 loss

The Staten Island Yankees rallied for five runs in the fourth inning for the win.
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- The Staten Island Yankees used a five-run uprising in the fourth inning to snap a 2-2 tie, and went on to post an 8-2 win over the Mahoning Valley Scrappers (22-45) Tuesday night in a New York-Penn League game.
Kevin Thompson's two-run single highlighted the Yankees' rally, while Omir Santos, John-Ford Griffin and Juan Camacho each contributed an RBI.
Jason Turner and Bernie Castro each had three hits for Staten Island (43-26), which pounded out 14 safeties, Griffin finishing with two. Turner had two doubles.
Jason Anderson got the mound win, allowing eight of the Scrappers' nine hits over six innings and striking out six.
Victor Kleine took the loss, allowing 11 hits and seven runs in 31/3 innings.
Kirby connects: Brian Kirby accounted for both of the Scrappers' runs with a two-run homer in the fourth inning that tied the game. Kirby drove in Quintana who had singled.
Chad Peshke had a pair of singles for the Scrappers.
After a day off today, the Scrappers will finish August at Auburn (N.Y.) with games Thursday and Friday at 7 p.m.
Mahoning Valley then will return home for five games to finish the season at Cafaro Field starting Saturday against Oneonta at 7 p.m.
