NY-PENN LEAGUE Yankees use five-run eighth to put Scrappers away, 10-3
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- The Staten Island Yankees scored five runs in the eighth inning to put the finishing touches on a 10-3 victory over the Mahoning Valley Scrappers on Sunday at Richmond County Bank Ballpark at St. George.
The Yankees (42-25) recorded 14 hits against Scrappers pitching, including five for extra bases.
Mahoning Valley, meanwhile, struggled again with its offense, managing just two runs and three hits off Staten Island starter John Blankenship, who improved to 3-0.
Scrappers left fielder Travis Santini had two of the team's six hits, including a home run. Chad Peshke and Keith Lillash doubled for the Scrappers (21-44).
Doug Lantz (4-6) started and took the loss for the Scrappers. In 5 1-3 innings, he allowed four runs on six hits while striking out five and walking two.
Scott Sturkie and Jason MacIntosh relieved Lantz and gave up six runs over the final 2 2-3 innings.
