SHARON, Pa. -- The Shenango Valley Chamber of Commerce is losing its executive director/chief executive officer.
Dennis E. Reichard, 53, of Monticello Avenue, Hermitage, said he is getting back into the banking business.
He has accepted a position with Mellon Bank as its business banking officer for Mercer County. The job starts Sept. 4.
"The opportunity was too good to pass up," Reichard said.
Took position in '99: He was hired as chamber head Sept. 8, 1999, succeeding John Holliday, who resigned to concentrate on his position as executive director of the Shenango Valley Industrial Development Corp. and to start his own consulting service.
Reichard, a Greenville native, was a vice president in National City Bank's local private client group office until the bank closed that office and his job was eliminated in April 1999.
He had served as chairman of the chamber's board of directors in 1985.
Reichard holds a bachelor's degree in economics from Grove City College and a master's in business administration from Youngstown State University.
"Denny has done some really great things for the Shenango Valley Chamber of Commerce," said Ken Johnston, board president.
Added members: When he was hired, Reichard was charged with strengthening the chamber's membership and he did that, adding 120 members in less than two years, bringing the total to 550 member companies, Johnston said.
He also credited Reichard with strengthening chamber programs, member benefits and special events, as well as establishing communications with the other three chambers in Mercer County and the Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber.
He was instrumental in getting Mercer and Lawrence counties included in a work-force study conducted by the Youngstown/Warren chamber, Johnston said.
A search committee has been formed to find a successor and candidates can send r & eacute;sum & eacute;s to Executive Director Search, P.O. Box 347, Clark, Pa. 16113.
