Historical open house

SALEM -- The Salem Historical Society will have an open house 1 to 4 p.m. next Sunday to showcase the renovation of the Schell Building, 208 S. Broadway St. The display in the new exhibit area will center on World War II.

Police steak fry planned

COITSVILLE -- The fourth annual Coitsville Township Police Association steak fry is from 5 to 9 p.m. Aug. 25 at Willow Ranch, 302 S. Hubbard Road. Advance tickets are $10 and $15 the day of the event. Call Allan P. Morris, assistant police chief, at (330) 536-6420 for tickets or ask any Coitsville officer. Donations and proceeds benefit the association, which uses the money to buy specialized equipment for the police and fire departments and support many nonprofit community organizations.

Meetings canceled

YOUNGSTOWN -- Mahoning County commissioners have canceled their regular weekly meetings for the rest of the month. The board's next regular meeting will be at 10 a.m. Sept. 6, in the basement of the county courthouse.
