Scrappers' 7th inning rally falls short in loss to Auburn
AUBURN, N.Y. -- The Mahoning Valley Scrappers scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning Tuesday to pull within one run of Auburn, but couldn't get any closer as the Doubledays swept the two-game set with a 4-3 win .
Victory Kleine (1-5) gave up four runs (three earned) in six innings to take the loss.
Eric Stephenson (3-4) went five innings, giving up one run on a homer by Keith Lillash, to earn the win.
Jonathan Van Every and Miguel Quintana each had two hits for Mahoning Valley (14-34).
Steven Hecker pitched a scoreless eighth and Felix Romero came on in the ninth to earn his ninth save of the season.
Mahoning Valley will be home for six games, beginning with a two-game series against Williamsport on Thursday at Cafaro Field.
