Bankruptcy case

YOUNGSTOWN -- Trumbull County Prosecutor Dennis Watkins' bankruptcy case will wrap up in late September, as long as no creditors come forward with objections.

Watkins filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy protection in June, listing debts totaling $285,346 and assets of $177,622.

Creditors have until Sept. 28 to file objections with the court. They can object to the entire proceeding or only to the part of it that specifically affects them. In court documents, Watkins listed a net monthly income of $5,619 and regular monthly debts of $5,291, including $1,515 in alimony.

Testimony ends

YOUNGSTOWN -- Testimony ended Friday afternoon in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court, where Antonio Griffin is on trial for the attempted murder of Rocky DeFrank in May 1999.

Assistant Prosecutor Patrick Pochiro and defense attorney Mark Lavelle will make closing arguments Monday morning, after which jurors will begin deliberating. Griffin, 22, of Hillman Way, faces 13 years to life in prison if he is convicted.

Scrap tire pickup

HOWLAND -- A scrap tire pickup will be Aug. 18 for township residents only. Tires should be placed curbside by 8 a.m. There's a limit of eight passenger tires with rims removed per household. Truck tires are excluded. This service is provided by the township's public works department through a grant from Geauga-Trumbull Solid Waste Management District.
