"Today, I resubscribed to The Vindy"
March 10, 2014
This was a great way to start a Monday with this email from a Valley citizen:
Good morning Todd.
After reading Sunday's paper, I was once again full of delight and respect for what you and the Vindicator delivers.
I'm sure a bunch of folks have sent in their accolades for Scalzo's article on Christine Terlesky's ALS experience. It was moving and well done, from the uplifting pictures to the smile-producing quotes throughout.
Your own column on page 2 as well was tactful and right on target.
I used to be a regular subscriber to the Vindy then stopped for a while.
It was not a smart move, so today I resubscribed.
Keep up the great work!

The Vindicator is a good paper. It's the delivery of the paper that caused me to cancel my subscription. No delivery and having to call for a back up paper on way too many occasions. When you don't have a Sunday paper by Sunday afternoon....

I agree with rickking. The Vindicator is a very good paper and the only issue I've ever had that bothered me was delivery. Last few years we've been extremely lucky and have had excellent service- they've only missed a few times because of weather. I hope it continues as daily paper- a real printed paper- is very important to me. I wouldn't be happy with just on-line edition.
Oh, I should qualify above- I do have one other issue with the Vindicator but I don't suppose anything can be done about it- I'll just have to learn to live with it- The Vindy Opinion Pieces- Columns and Editorials- sadly- have yet to conform closely to my own opinions- even though I have sent numerous E-mails suggesting their improvement- all of which have been systematically ignored.
Oh well, I guess I'll just have to "lick my wounds" and go on with Life!

I do have to say, however, your digital edition is pretty darn good. I'm on it at least once a day and I have a lot of fun with and, also, I feel I perform a humanitarian service with my comments by increasing the worlds stock of wisdom. At least that's how I feel- whether anybody else agrees with me is another matter!
Another point- I get on the Tribune Chronicle's Website quite a lot, too, so am in a position to compare the two and, I think, I prefer yours. Number One Reason: the Trib limits comments to 1,000 Words- you, generously, let me blab on 3 times as long- a 3,000 word limit- and for a long-winded person that's important.
But, the real clincher, for me, in picking you over the Trib, is that with your message board I get to try to guess which of your commentators is actually Dave Betras! I know he's out there somewhere- commenting- and I have a pretty good idea of his pen name- based on the prose style, choice of words, etc.- but I won't say who. I'm sure somebody who knows him will let the cat out of the bag soon- as I'm sure Dave, vain as he is, won't be able to resist bragging about it.
P.S. I am seriously considering down loading all my 700 plus posts, taking them to a printer and having them made up into a nice little booklet- with imitation leather binding and a 6k (all I can afford) gold embossed title page- and presenting it to family and friends as a Holiday Stocking Stuffer. When I complete this project, I will certainly send a complimentary copy to the Vindy Newsroom- the folks that made it all possible.

I am one of your relatives (guess which one). Please do not include me on your Holiday Stocking Stuffer gift list when or if you complete this booklet. I have more than enough kindling to ignite my fireplace.
