About John Browne

A former Conservative Member of Parliament and graduate of the Harvard Business School, John Browne is an economist, investment adviser, nationally recognized columnist and worldwide lecturer on various political, economic, financial and defense issues.

He is a weekly op-ed columnist for the Pittsburgh Tribune Review and appears frequently on local and national television. He is the Senior Market Strategist for Euro Pacific Capital, Inc., where his weekly column appears on the Company’s web page and lectures at various money and financial conferences. In addition, he is a Visiting Fellow at the Heritage Foundation, Washington, DC.

As a former Member of Parliament for some fourteen years, John also offers insight into international politics, economics and defense. He served on the Treasury Select Committee; as elected Secretary of the Conservative Defense and Finance Committees; and as elected Chairman of the Conservative Small Business Committee. His Parliamentary work involved him with national leaders such as President Reagan and Party Secretary Gorbachev. He briefed Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher that Gorbachev would likely become leader of the Soviet Union.

John Browne graduated from the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst (the UK equivalent of West Point), where he was a private student of the late Sir Basil Liddell-Hart, who was perhaps the single most important designer of what his German students later christened Blitzkrieg. John was commissioned into the Grenadier Guards (Royal Guard), serving as a pilot, parachutist and communications specialist. He served in British Guiana, Cyprus and in Germany. In London, he participated on major State occasions, including having responsibility for the pallbearers at the State Funeral of the late Sir Winston Churchill. He retired as a Major and continues to be involved in defense studies.

John went on to receive his MSc from Cranfield Institute of Technology and his MBA from Harvard Business School. He worked as an investment banker with Morgan Stanley & Co, on Wall Street and with various investment houses in the City of London, operating in the UK Government and Eurobond markets.

John Browne has written numerous published articles on politics, economics, finance and defense. He has served on the boards of several companies, both in England and the United States and as a governor of Southampton University. He continues to serve as a governor of Malvern College, as an officer of the Order of Saint John and as a liveryman of the Goldsmiths Company.

Diagnosis

You’ve fallen into a black, bottomless abyss with these four life—altering words — “I have breast cancer.” What’s going to happen, to her and to you? You’ve just received the bad news. And you’ve got a big problem — what do you do next? You’ve entered a dark world of grief, guilt, anger, denial, fear, isolation, and anxiety, all colliding inside you. You’ve been swallowed whole by a black hole of misery, pain, numbness, shock, and nothingness. Husbands, dads, sons, brothers, friends, coworkers: Welcome to the Stand by Her brotherhood, where the code of conduct is to react, not act; listen, not talk; engage, not disengage; embrace, not run away.

Although prepared for martyrdom, I preferred that it be postponed.
Winston Churchill
