After the saucer
The No. 16 hole at Pine Lakes is place of legends.
For decades, it was home to the famous “Saucer Hole.” Ask a golfer about great golf holes of the Valley, and in short time, they would bring up the “Saucer Hole.”
It was a Par 3 hole with a perfectly shaped bowl green. And with the cup more times than not dead in the center in the green, it yielded countless holes in one.
(Just not to Pine Pro Chris Carfangia)
Several years ago, in the name of progress, the “Saucer Hole” was abandoned and a new No. 16 was built.
While the new version has no gimmicks like its older sister, it is a fantastic hole.
A spacious green awaits a tee shot that flirts with a beautiful pond and sand traps.
The green, while large, is one of constant shifting and moving. Maybe a straight, flat putt exists here. Maybe.
