Christian gets 500th assist in 3-1 setback



Jeff Christian had three assists and now has 501 for his career.

LUBBOCK, Texas — Youngstown SteelHounds captain Jeff Christian celebrated a milestone on Friday by earning the 500th assist of his hockey career.

Christian earned three assists as the SteelHounds defeated the Lubbock Cotton Kings, 3-1.

After scoreless first period, Christian set up Mark Johnson for a wraparound goal and assist career 499.

Later in the period, Christian fed Chris Shaffer for a goal.

Christian and defenseman Paul Esdale helped Brad Patterson score to seal the win.

Christian now has 501 assists.

Goaltender Brad Roberts made his in his third straight start, stopping 34 shots. Kyle Nosan scored for the Cotton Kings.

The SteelHounds win combined with a Memphis loss puts the SteelHounds one point behind the River KIngs for first place in the division and the Central Hockey League's best record.

Tonight, the SteelHounds are in Oklahoma City to play the Blazers.

SteelHounds release Orr

In a roster move, the SteelHounds have released forward Doug Orr and acquired forward Mark Odut from the Long Beach Ice Dogs of the East Coast Hockey League.

Odut is a three-year professional who is new to the Central Hockey League but not to SteelHounds head coach Kevin Kaminski. Odut played under Kaminski with the Missouri River Otters of the United Hockey League last season.

While playing under Kaminski, he racked up 27 points including 15 assists in 62 games.
