Its wasn't pretty, nor was it a victory
Youngstown lost Saturday night's CHL game, 6-3.
OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. To call it a "Shootout at the OK Corral" would be an understatement as the Youngstown SteelHounds lost a penalty-filled game to the Oklahoma City Blazers on Saturday night.
In a game that saw 40 penalties called for 132 penalty minutes, the SteelHounds lost, 6-3.
The Blazers opened the scoring with a shorthanded goal by Jared Dumba at 17:21 of the opening period.
Tied, 1-1
Youngstown tied the game in the second period when Brad Patterson netted his second goal in two nights and his fifth of the season.
But the Blazers regained the lead when Mike Burgoyne scored his first goal of the night at 11:08 on the power play.
The SteelHounds responded for a 2-2 tie when Jeff Christian, who finished with three points, scored the first of his two goals. Christian's goal was the result of a shorthanded backhand shot.
Christian's other goal put the SteelHounds ahead, 3-2, and came on a power-play advantage.
Christian extended his point scoring streak to seven games and put him in a tie for the league lead in points (38) and assists (26) with linemate Chris Richards.
Late in the second period, Dallas Flaman knocked one past SteelHounds goaltender Brad Roberts for a 3-3 tie.
Burgoyne scored twice in the third period to reach 10 on the season. It was also the Blazers' first hattrick of the season.
Peter Robertson also scored for Oklahoma City.
Indoor fireworks
Then the fireworks began. SteelHounds defenseman Paul Esdale was sandwiched by two Blazers and that led to a brawl that saw both goalies ejected for fighting at center ice.
In the game, the SteelHounds were shorthanded 11 times
The defeat snaps Brad Roberts' eight-game streak of not losing in regulation.
The SteelHounds (10-6-5, 25 points) are two points back of first-place Memphis in the Northeast Division of the Central Hockey League.
The SteelHounds will spend the week in Oklahoma gearing up for Friday's game in Tulsa against the Oilers. Game time will be at 8:35 p.m.
