Jurenovich winner of Junior event
SOLON Katie Jurenovich of Warren won the 16-18 girls age division championship in the 2007 Northern Ohio Westfield Junior PGA Championship Thursday at Hawthorne Valley Country Club.
Jurenovich, 18, fired a final-round 78 to go with her opening 77 for a two-day total of 155 and an 11-stroke win over Ariel Witmer of North Lima, who finished with 87-79166.
Jurenovich qualified for the 32nd national Westfield Junior PGA Championship July 11-14 at Westfield Group Country Club in Westfield Center.
Katie Rogner of Fowler placed seventh with 85-89174, while Jennifer Hudock of Canfield tied for 12th place with 100-91191.
John Burke of Bay Village won the boys 16-18 title by beating Richie Schembechler of Massillon on the first playoff hole, after both tied at 76-71147 and 78-69147.
Youngstown's Paul Cene was tied for 15th with 80-77157, while Jacob Detec of Girard was tied for 28th with 84-82166.
In the girls 12-and-under division, Haylee Harford of Leavittsburg won by two strokes with 56-5096 over Danielle Nicholson of Geneva, who had 48-5098.
In the boys 12-and-under division, Ryan Fowler of Warren was 10th with 51-52103.
The winner was Chase Johnson of Barberton with 38-4078.
