Geneva slips past Daemen
Walsh earned a share of the AMC South title with a win over Wilberforce.
BEAVER FALLS, Pa. Jermaine Ferguson had 24 points as Geneva shot 56 percent from the field to defeat Daemen (N.Y.) 78-73 Saturday night in an American Mideast Conference game.
Kyle McDermott added 16 points for the Golden Tornadoes (14-15, 3-7 AMC North), who will play at Notre Dame (Ohio) Wednesday in the first round of the conference tournament. Mike Ross finished with 14 points for Geneva.
Walsh 67, Wilberforce 55
WILBERFORCE Eighth-ranked Walsh earned a share of the AMC South championship behind Jason Hicks, who finished with 16 points. Corey Jones added 12 points and Adam Lesch had 10 for the Cavaliers (24-5, 15-3 AMC South).
Eder Araujo had 10 rebounds and Brandon Weems, who leads the NAIA in assists, had seven.
Cedarville 86, Malone 83
CEDARVILLE Ryan Short scored 33 points to outduel Malone's Tyler Renner, who finished with 27.
Short made 15-of-20 from the field; the rest of the Cedarville (21-6, 15-3 AMC South) team was 18-of-52. Guy Rathmell added 15 points, while Grant Walker and Chris Beals scored 13 each.
Also for Malone (17-13, 7-11), Shane Humphrey scored 22 points.
Women
WILBERFORCE Latoya Graham scored the winning basket with three seconds remaining, giving Wilberforce a 71-70 win over Walsh.
Nicole Dressler, who finished with 15 points and seven rebounds for the Cavaliers (5-21, 3-15 AMC South), scored with 10 seconds to go, giving Walsh a 70-69 lead.
Ingrid Brainard added 10 points for the Cavaliers.
Cedarville 71, Malone 62
CEDARVILLE Brittany Smart scored 29 points on 11-of-18 shooting to lead No. 4-ranked Cedarville.
Sarah Walton added 16 points and Kristi Beougher scored 10 for Cedarville (23-6, 15-3 AMC South), which led 39-28 at halftime.
Nikki Parson had 17 points and 11 rebounds for Malone (18-12, 10-8), which committed 21 turnovers. Cara Shiplett added 13 points for the Pioneers.
